Position Summary

The Department of Art at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2024. We seek a visionary colleague who will provide leadership in coordinating the Printmaking area as well as collaborate with colleagues to re-envision how practices of drawing can support the curricula in painting and printmaking. We are interested in a colleague who synthesizes technical and conceptual skills, and brings a unique contemporary perspective to their area. They should possess an active exhibition record and a broad historical and contemporary knowledge of the discipline. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about teaching undergraduate students, should possess in-depth knowledge of traditional printmaking methods and materials (intaglio, screen printing, relief printmaking and/or lithography), and demonstrate engagement with digital technologies and expanded approaches to printmaking and the multiple. We welcome candidates interested in developing opportunities for students to engage with faculty research.

The Department of Art seeks to recruit faculty members dedicated to cultivating critical dialogue and equity within an interdisciplinary arts community. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity and improving access for diverse and underrepresented student groups which are integral to the department and university's mission. Additionally, the successful candidates have innovative practice and pedagogy that challenge the disciplinary conventions of printmaking. RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include teaching and the coordination of the printmaking area as well as shared responsibilities overseeing drawing classes. Area coordination includes developing curriculum, hiring affiliate faculty, and collaborating with department staff on maintaining the studios, managing a budget, and hiring models and student employees. The successful candidate will participate in teaching a pool of shared courses in Integrated Media as well as Advanced Interdisciplinary Studio, Senior Experience, and Professional Practices, all of which rotate among all studio faculty on a regular basis.

Our facultyadvise students, provide service to thedepartment through committee work and/or coordination, and to some combination of the college, university, community and/or professional organizations. Our faculty are also expected to demonstrate significant participation in scholarly and/or creative activity. The successful candidates must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse urban population and should address how their prior experience prepares them to create an inclusive learning environment.

Required Qualifications

MFA in Art or related field; or MA in Art or related field plus three years of professional and/or teaching experience; or Bachelor's Degree in Art or related field plus significant local or national recognition and three years of professional and/or teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and cultural sensitivity in supporting the needs of a diverse urban student population, including (but not limited to) students of color, LGBTQIA+students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English-languagelearners
  • Demonstrated ability to expand artistic practices and creative dialogue that will contribute to the diversity of the Department, the University, and the broader community
  • Experience or interest in teaching art in an interdisciplinary, experimental, and responsive manner
  • Knowledge and curricular implementation of institutional critique of the media and history of printmaking
  • Knowledge of technical and conceptual skills in printmaking
  • College-level teachingexperience in printmaking
  • Active documentation of creative practice and achievement in art or a related field
  • Experience in mentoring students and colleagues in either an academic or communitysetting
  • Experience in managing a studio space, equipment, personnel, and budget

Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $62,000 at Assistant Professor rank. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
