Job Overview

The Anesthesia Technician Specialist assists licensed anesthesia providers in a clinical setting. They perform their duties under the direct supervision of a licensed anesthesia provide and/or Registered Nurse (RN) and following the CHCO policies and procedures. This role is responsible for acquisition, preparation and application of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia. The Anesthesia Technician Specialist is also responsible for participating in the planning of care delivery in complex cases, serves as the resource team member on assigned shifts and assists in the orientation and training of new hires.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Three years of experience as an Anesthesia Technician in a pediatric acute care setting. Cardiac anesthesia experience preferred.

Certification(s): BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire. ASATT Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.) preferred

Responsibilities

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

Provides anesthesia setup for cases by completing the anesthesia machine checkout, assists with first line troubleshooting of anesthesia equipment, conducts inventory of anesthesia machine drawer for appropriate equipment, ensure equipment is in working condition and restocks Anesthesia Work Station (AWS) between cases and maintains a safe work environment.

Removes the anesthesia equipment from the room post care, removes equipment from poles and prepares for Sterile Processing department pickup. Disinfects the machine and AWS between cases and at the end of the day.

Assists in positioning and preparing patient for procedures as directed and identifies special equipment needs.

Setup rapid infuser, ultrasound, fiber optic scopes, video laryngoscope, trans-illuminators, pressure lines, IV lines, sterile trays, and positioning devices.

During procedures and under direction from the provider, anticipates and provides equipment needs, prepares the dressing line insertion sites.

Prepares supplies necessary for invasive line placement.

Assists the anesthesia provider with patient transport.

Coordinates with external departments to ensure appropriate equipment is available.

Participates in the planning of anesthesia care delivery in complex cases.

Assists management in orientation and training of new hires.

Serves as a resource as assigned. Duties include creating daily assignments, ensuring assignments are completed, adjusting staff assignments as needed, removing damaged equipment from service, and notifying manager and serving as a liaison between OR staff and the Anesthesia Team.

Complexity: Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy. Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.

Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed.

Communications: Contacts with team members, clients or the public where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function.

Supervision Received: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent. Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $40,281.66 to $60,422.48
Hourly Salary Range: $19.37 to $29.05
