The Davey Tree Expert Company is offering one student seasonal internship opportunity in the Davey Institute's Diagnostic and Research Laboratories. The Davey Tree Expert Company is the North American leader in residential tree care, utility line clearance, commercial landscape services, and urban forestry / natural resource consulting with operations throughout the US and Canada. The Davey Institute is responsible for research and development, environmental programs, technical support, and education and training for all of Davey's North American operations.
This position will report in-person to the Davey Institute, located on our corporate campus in Kent, Ohio.Some travel required.
Responsibilities include processing plant, soil, and insect samples, assisting with diagnosing insect and disease problems of plants, assisting with field and lab research, maintenance of field plots, data collection and data entry. Desired skills include computer literacy, communication, time management, willingness to work outdoors, and ability to work independently.
Diagnostic Laboratory tasks:
- General lab cleaning and organizing
- File and digital image organization
- Logging in and processing samples
- Performing diagnostic tests and cultures
Research Laboratory tasks:
- Assisting with various studies, including data collection and processing
- Pollinator research
- Trials and bioassays
- Field plot maintenance
Qualifications: enrollment or future enrollment in a related degree program such as biology, botany, entomology, environmental science, horticulture, or pathology; valid driver's license.
